French president to heap pressure on Real Madrid over Mbappe’s Olympics dream

French president Emmanuel Macron has vowed to put maximum pressure on Real Madrid to release Kylian Mbappe for the 2024 Olympics this summer.

Kylian Mbappe is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the current season with his next destination set to be Real Madrid.

Though an official announcement has not been made, Mbappe has not been shy in speaking about his dream of playing for the Los Blancos.

However, Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid might see his hopes of playing in the Olympics football tournament dashed.

Real Madrid in the past few seasons have refuse to let players participate at the tournament. Despite this, France president believes things can change when it comes to Mbappe.

“I hope [Mbappe will be at the Olympics]. In any case, I put the maximum pressure on his ‘future club’,” Macron commented during an appearance this week.

“It’s always the same, one game at a time. First, we have Euro 2024 football and they must win on 14 July,” he added, with the date of the final falling on Bastille Day.

Before the Olympics, Mbappe will be leading France to the 2024 Euros and will be eager to end up on the podium in Germany.

The Olympic tournament in France begins just ten days after the Euros conclude in Germany.

If Mbappe is allowed to join the France team, he would also see him miss virtually all of his first pre-season with his new club and head into 2024/25 without a true break.

Madrid have made clear their stance on the Olympics and this has also affected France internationals Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

Both players would also have to be picked as one of the permitted over-age players at the otherwise Under-23 tournament.
