Man Utd to save millions if Ruben Amorim joins AC Milan

Manchester United are set to save a good sum of amount as former manager Ruben Amorim nears a return to the dugout with Italian side AC Milan.

Amorim was sacked at United in January, following a run of bad result. Despite his inability to work things out at Old Trafford, the Portuguese tactician is the frontrunner to take over at San Siro following a disappointing campaign for the Rossoneri.

The former Sporting Lisbon manager decision to start a new adventure at AC Milan now pose a great financial benefit to Manchester United.

According to the Telegraph, United had previously calculated a staggering cost of £16.7 million for dismissing the Portuguese coach and his backroom staff earlier this year. However, with Amorim now poised to return to work in Serie A, United will be spared a significant portion of those ongoing compensation payments.

It is believed Amorim will be announced as AC Milan new manager after the Italian giants held talks with the former Manchester United boss, moving him to the top of a shortlist that once featured the likes of Oliver Glasner and Mauricio Pochettino.

Amorim had previously been linked with the vacancy at Benfica following Jose Mourinho’s move to Real Madrid, but the Portuguese side opted for former Fulham manager, Marco Silva.

Milan are now set to offer Amorim a provisional two-year contract, which includes the possibility of a third season.

The move would represent a chance for Amorim to rebuild his reputation away from the intense scrutiny of the Premier League, where his controversial 3-4-2-1 system struggled to work at United.
