Manchester United are expected to take a bold step in the upcoming transfer window with half of the team set to be shown the exit door.

Despite brining in Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon after the departure of Erik ten Hag, United have failed to stay on top of their game. The Red Devils suffered an home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday and this has sparked a huge reaction from the board.

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, more than 50 per cent of the United squad has now been deemed surplus to new manager Ruben Amorim’s needs and could be sold over the next few transfer windows.

Reports claimed co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group have decided to entrust Amorim with the squad rebuilding process, however, for that to happen, the club need to make sales first.

The journalist further claims that only a few key members of the team will be retained on a long-term basis which includes players like Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs De Ligt, Lenny Yoro and Andre Onana. Captain Bruno Fernandes, who penned a fresh deal earlier this season, will also remain at Old Trafford at least until 2027.

United players have until the end of the season to prove why they should not be shown the exit door. Underperforming players will be eager to put up impressive performance when United take on Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday.
