Manchester United sack Erik ten Hag, announce new interim coach

Manchester United have sacked Erik ten hag following the Red Devils Sunday’s defeat to West Ham.Ten Hag was informed of the decision on Monday morning.
This latest development brings to an end Erik ten Hag’s two-and-a-half years in charge of the Red Devils.
A Man United statement read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
Man United sources say the decision was a difficult, but a collective and unanimous one.
The club wanted to give Ten Hag the opportunity to work within the new sporting structure that was installed over the summer. However, results have not been impressive since the season started.
United have won just four games out of 14 this season and sit 14th in the Premier League, with their poor run stretching to one win in their last eight.
As to Ten Hag’s possible replacements, former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has been linked with the vacant role. Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, and Borussia Dortmund’s Edin Terzic are also being considered.
