Barcelona target backed to succeed Manuel Neuer as Bayern Munich captain

Barcelona have been linked with various Bayern Munich star in the past, and recently, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich have been linked with the Spanish giant.

However, Barcelona’s chances of signing both players have hit a major block with Bayern Munich preparing a new deal for both players. Joshua Kimmich has also been tipped to replace Manuel Neuer as the club captain.

Joshua Kimmich was once again pivotal for Vincent Kompany on Tuesday as Bayern Munich clinched a narrow 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The German midfielder helped Die Roten dominate the game by being a calming influence in the center of the park.

Kimmich also played an important role from a set-piece in Die Roten’s solitary goal in the game.

The 29-year-old midfielder has now been hailed by Bayern chiefs for his impact on the pitch this season.

Max Eberl believes Kimmich will become the captain of Bayern once Manuel Neuer hangs up his boots. While talking to the media after last night’s game (via AZ), Eberl backed Kimmich to become the skipper of the first team in the near future.

“When Manu and Thomas retire, he should become the face of Bayern. We’re having very open, good discussions. Joshua knows that’s what we want. He has to decide whether he wants a new challenge or whether he wants to become a legend at Bayern.”

The current skipper- Manuel Neuer, also believes Kimmich has the qualities to lead the first team.

Manuel Neuer: “Definitely. He’s already proved that. I think it’s also very logical that he took over the armband in the national team. For example on the pitch, there are situations when the referee can’t speak to me because I have to run 50 meters, the referee knows that Jo speaks for the team. He’s important for us, a leading player, so I think it’s the logical choice”

Neuer is expected to pass over the baton soon since he is 38. Kimmich has already succeeded Neuer as the captain of the German national team
