In love with McDonald’s: Patrice Evra opens up on overweight Man Utd team-mate

Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has named his Champions League winning team-mate at the Premier League giant who was obsessed with fast food.

Ranked among the best in his position, Evra lifted the European Cup in 2008 in what was one of Alex Ferguson’s greatest ever eras. However, the left-back said one player was too focused on McDonald’s to get the most out of his career.

Evra made this known while speaking to comedian Shane Todd on his Tea With Me podcast about scoring against Glentoran in Belfast in 2007.

Todd, a Manchester United fan, said he was at the match and he remembered Anderson producing “one of the best performances” he had ever seen.

Responding, Evra said: “It was but he just loved McDonald’s. But he could have been. I was always telling him and he would say ‘Patrice, when I see the big M it is like Christmas ’. True story.

“Seriously, he is one of the most talented and gifted but he had some problem with his weight.

”I remember one day I was with Ferguson and Ferguson says ‘Anderson come here’. He said ‘Ando, I’ve spoke with the doctor, you need to eat healthy’ and whatever.

“Then Ando just asked the gaffer, ‘how much you earn in pay a week’? Ferguson was like, ‘what’? He said ‘maybe when I have the same salary I am going to start eating salad’. True story.”

Anderson was at Old Trafford for eight years after he was signed for £20million from Porto and despite not living up to expectations, he pocketed four Premier League winning medals.
