Wayne Rooney begins new coaching role months after being sacked

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has officially started his new coaching role weeks after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle.
Ranked among the best goalscorers in football history, Rooney has failed to keep up the pace as a football manager. The former England international left his role at Home Park on New Year’s Eve with the club at the bottom of the Championship table and fighting to avoid relegation to League One.
The former Everton striker had won just five of his 25 matches in charge of Plymouth before his exit on the final day of 2024. Since leaving his role at Argyle, Rooney has gone back to his roots, the punditry world.
Rooney worked for Amazon Prime for their Champions League coverage, having previously worked for Sky Sports, BBC and TNT Sports.

Now Rooney has begun a new coaching role less than two months after leaving his job as Plymouth manager. According to The Mirror, the 39-year-old would `be taking on a role as a coach in Dubai.
The role would see Rooney run a coaching school for children at a luxury hotel in Dubai, which has been called Train with Wayne. Now Rooney has begun taking on the new role after arriving in the United Arab Emirates.
Football Escapes posted a photo of Rooney taking charge of a training session in Dubai. The former Everton striker was all smiles during the session, with the programme set to run across February half term.
“Wayne Rooney has touched down in Dubai and kicked off his Football Escapes debut,” the post read. “From the first whistle, he’s been out on the pitch, coaching, inspiring, and making memories with our football families at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
“Day 1 is just the start—big moments, top-class coaching, and plenty of fun ahead. Stay tuned!”
