Xavi gifts Barcelona one year salary despite embarrassing sack

Xavi Hernandez has finally been sacked as Barcelona manager and would leave the club after their last match of the 2023/24 season against Sevilla.
Despite agreeing to continue his job at Barcelona, Xavi angered club president Joan Laporta earlier this month with claims that the club could not compete with Real Madrid without major signings.
Laporta was reportedly not pleased with the comment and wanted a new manager that wants to compete for trophies.
Barcelona on Friday confirmed that Xavi will take charge of the club’s final game of the season away at Sevilla on Sunday. With one year still left on his contract, the Barca legend has decided to let go the remuneration.
Given the fact that Barcelona are essentially breaking the contract one year earlier, Xavi is entitled to some compensation fee.
However, Pintanel reports that Xavi informed Barcelona of his decision to let go of his salary for the remainder of his contract. He only demanded the salary of his coaching staff and assistants
According to the report, Xavi’s move served as a huge relief for Barcelona, saving them a fee of around €12 million.
Xavi wanted to leave his boyhood club without any controversies. The Spaniard did not want to head into the pre-match presser against Sevilla without knowing his future.
Reports added that his coaching staff were relieved at Barcelona’s decision, feeling a sense of freedom.
Barcelona are one step closer towards appointing his successor with former Bayern Munich manager, Hansi Flick set to take over.
The German is all set to replace Xavi Hernandez as the Barcelona head coach and could be officiated as soon as next week.
