World No. 1 Jannik Sinner Withdraws from US Open Due to Knee Injury

In a major twist ahead of the final Grand Slam of the season, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the 2026 US Open due to a persistent right knee injury.

The 25-year-old Italian announced his difficult decision on Friday, August 21, just over a week before the main draw gets underway at Flushing Meadows on August 30. Sinner’s absence deals a heavy blow to the men’s singles draw and brings an end to his remarkable streak of consecutive Grand Slam appearances dating back to his major debut in 2019.

The Road to Withdrawal

Sinner has been sidelined from competitive action since July, when he triumphed at Wimbledon to claim his fifth career Grand Slam title. Following the All England Club victory, he was forced to withdraw from the hard-court tune-up events at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open.
