Wolves sack Vitor Pereira after winless Premier League start

Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked manager Vitor Pereira after failing to win any of their 10 Premier League games this season.

A 3-0 defeat by Fulham on Saturday was Wolves’ eighth of the top-flight campaign.

Saturday’s dire 3-0 loss away to Fulham was the final straw, leaving Wolves stranded rock bottom with no wins from their opening 10 games. Pereira made nine changes to his starting XI from the side that was eliminated by Chelsea the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but they were unable to inspire a victory at Craven Cottage.

The decision comes just weeks after the Pereira, 57, was handed a new three-year contract.

Appointed in December 2024 to replace Gary O’Neill, the Portuguese helped steer Wolves to safety last season. But the loss of star player Matheus Cunha after Manchester United triggered his £62.5million release clause was a hammer blow.

Wolves’ only wins this season came in the Carabao Cup, both on home soil. They beat West Ham 3-2 in the second round before following that up with a 2-0 victory over Everton.

Saturday’s defeat at Fulham leaves Wolves eight points from safety. Even the pair of 1-1 draws that Pereira managed to pick up were gut-wrenching, conceding late equalised away to Tottenham and at home to Brighton on successive weekends.

In the aftermath of last Sunday’s 3-2 loss at home to newly-promoted Burnley, in which the visitors scored a 95th-minute winner, Periera confronted angry supporters on Molineux.

The former Porto, Olympiacos and and Fenerbahce boss was given two more games by the Wolves hierarchy, but they’ve now wielded the axe began searching for a replacement.
